The Cupping Room Roastery
The Cupping Room roastery is a little out of the way for the average tourist, but shouldn’t be skipped. Aside from the beautiful roaster, you might get your coffee brewed by champion Benny Wong or 2014 2nd placed and 2017 3rd placed world finalist Kapo Chiu. This place breathes coffee and specializes in filter coffee on the Hario. I highly recommend the Filter tasting where you get three filter coffees to taste. This is place sits snugly in my top 5 favourite coffee shops in the world.

The Coffee Academics Flagship
See or be seen, that is what The Coffee Academics is all about. The service of the staff isn’t personal, but who needs that when you can order Blue Mountain Coffee, Geisha coffee and Yirgacheffe off of the same menu. The food is excellent and the interior is hip, trendy and makes you want to sit down and just look. The better filter coffees are served in wineglasses. I recommend the Blue Mountain coffee. Be prepared to bring your wallet though.

Elephant Grounds Causeway Bay
Tried of shopping? Elephant Grounds is a place to sit down and enjoy an amazing cappuccino and something to eat. The baristas know their craft, the coffee is fresh and prepared like it should. The menu is extensive and has something delicious for everybody. I recommend a cappuccino for its amazing micro foam and cool latte art.

18 Grams Specialty Coffee
18 Grams can be found throughout Hong Kong. You could say this is a specialty coffee chain but make no mistake: their coffee is great. Roasted by 18 grams themselves you will always have the same quality of coffee wherever you go.
Try their espresso or flat white!

N1 Coffee & Co.
The place looks a shambles from the outside but is nothing of the sorts. Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, N1 Coffee & Co is the perfect place to grab a coffee before heading out on the ferry. Be prepared to wait in line because this place is really popular with the local coffee drinking crowd. And one more thing, have you spotted the horse inside yet?

Barista Jam is a beacon of coffee in Hong Kong. William So has created a place where you can really get that coffee experience. With a menu containing about 15 single origins there is bound to be something you like. The baristas have an amazing level of competence and you can taste it when drinking your coffee. Walk upstairs and find yourself in a coffee equipment heaven. I recommend just going to this place and experience the birthplace of coffee culture in Hong Kong.

Amber Coffee Brewery is not just a coffee shop, it is a also a place to grab a glass of quality wine. The place isn’t big and has a lot of costumers dropping in for a coffee-to-go. But if you do manage to confiscate a seat, order a cappuccino since the latte art champion of Hong Kong works right here. The barista know their craft and will explain everything you want to know about coffee…and wine!

Brew Note Coffee Roaster
Located east of Causeway Bay is North Point, home to one of the best coffee shops in Hong Kong. The place is owned by Vincent Hung, a young coffee roaster and already a sort of icon in the local scene. Brew Note is all about quality and consistency: Vincent trains all of his barista’s and makes sure they brew the coffee like it is supposed to be. Not known by tourists, well known by locals, Brew Note is a coffee shop you should most definitely visit.

Urban Coffee Roasters
Urban Coffee Roasters is located in Kowloon and is located near the Tsim Sha Tsui station. The place gives credit to its name because the moment you step inside, the urban feel of this coffee shop washes over you. Inside you will find people working, students chatting and coffee lovers musing over a nicely brewed filter. The interior keeps you scanning the place out and also the murals are very nice to see. Most importantly is the fact that the coffee menu of Urban Coffee Roasters changes over time, so be sure to take the coffee that you want…it might not be there next time you visit.
The menu also looks very good, so if you have the munchies AND the craving for coffee, this is your place.

Knockbox Coffee Company
Knockbox Coffee Company seems a little out of the way, but actually is very close to The Ladies (Night) Market. Knockbox Coffee Company is home to the 2018 Hong Kong barista champion C.P. Wong. When you enter this place you will find a typical narrow coffee shop with lots of people inside. When you look around you will find coffee information everywhere. How to choose your coffee, flavour profile per continent, the different special coffees they are serving at that moment and art on the walls. This is coffee heaven for those who are new, and to those who are already familiar with specialty coffee. Try the Yemen coffee they serve here, you will not get disappointed with full flavours and aromas. Be sure to bring some cash though, Yemen coffee is not cheap!
